The shadow of recession may be lurking in retailers’ halls this holiday season, but one Hudson Valley store wasn’t feeling the “grinch” pinch last weekend.

Unlike many of her neighboring business owners, Irit Goldman’s shop, Iriniri, was filled with shoppers delighting in the variety of offerings on display – and spending their holiday dollars with nary a flicker of indecision.

When a revamped plan for a mega-ski resort in the Catskill Park was unveiled as part of an agreement in principle (AIP) between Governor Spitzer’s office, developer Crossroads Ventures L.L.C., the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, and seven environmental groups in September, it was hailed as a model of green development that would help boost tourism and jumpstart the economy.

Bruised and battered from decades of decline, upstate New York is finally getting its act together via Unshackle New York, a coalition of more than 60 upstate business organizations started by a business partnership and the chambers of commerce in Buffalo and Rochester two years ago.

 

Bill DeCota, director of aviation for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, claimed to have accomplished more in 46 days running Stewart International Airport than the airport’s previous managers accomplished in seven years.

 

KDF Reprographics, Inc. of Rockleigh, N.J., was awarded last week a one-year contract by Rockland County to provide engineering printing, duplicating, laminating and binding services countywide. This will be the second contract won by KDF for these services.

 

Ulster Savings Bank plans to open a branch in Woodstock. The office would be located adjacent to the town’s two other banks on Mill Hill Road, one operated by Bank of America Corp. that had $58 million in deposits as of last June and one owned by TD Banknorth with $18 million in deposits.
