New century, new name for poughkeepsie chamber

On November 30, Charles North, president of the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce, announced a new name and direction for his organization: As of January 1, 2008, it will be known as the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce.

 

After taking an in-depth survey of its more than 1,600-plus members, the PACC board discovered more than 51 per cent came from outside the town and city of Poughkeepsie, with some coming from as far away as Red Hook to the north and Beacon at the southern end of the county. “Obviously, we have expanded well beyond our original borders,” said North. “Now, the time has come again to change our chamber's   name to reflect our regional growth.”

 

The new name and logo will be enhanced with an expanded website that will include links to several small all-volunteer chambers. “The goal is to be more inclusive, and that means helping our smaller chambers who do not have the means to get their events or their tourism attractions out to the public.”
