Partnership recognizes best and brightest

Bright lights and plenty of fanfare greeted more than 500 guests at the Orange County Partnership’s annual dinner and awards ceremony at Anthony’s Pier 9 Nov. 27.

Maureen Halahan thanked the dozens of supporters who have “made Orange County the place people want to be.” Several expansions of existing companies and 521 new jobs added up to what Halahan considered a very good year for the partnership and its strategic partners.

The partnership awarded its Spirit of Innovation Award to Advanced Coating Technologies for its merger with Pratt & Whitney and the creation of a new industrial hub in the town of Wallkill. The expansion is expected to create an additional 80 jobs.

The Quality of Life Award went to the Orange County Citizens Foundation for publishing a comprehensive report on the quality of life in Orange County, funded by state Sen. William Larkin, the Dyson Foundation and private money from OCCF supporters.

The Partnership’s “Golden Shovel Award” went to Stewart International Airport for “bringing economic vitality to the region,” said Halahan, along with an expected $500 million in improvements the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has earmarked for its newest facility.

Also honored was Orange County Legislator Alan Seidman, who received Leadership Orange’s annual award for commitment to the community.

Guests were treated to lighthearted but poignant commentary by Daniel Gross, business columnist for Newsweek magazine, who penned, “Pop! Why Bubbles Are Great for the Economy,” released in May.
