West Point

There may be no better-known campus in America than West Point, set on bluffs overlooking the Hudson River at a dogleg critical to America’s independence. It is also set cheek-by-jowl next to Highland Falls, a village with fewer souls than the U.S. Military Academy’s 4,000-plus cadets.

The health center sitting at the corner of Washington Street and lower Broadway in Newburgh has seen its share of patients over the past 40 years.

Maureen Halahan of Orange County Partnership laughs when she remembers the initial reaction to Lou Heimbach’s “road to nowhere” when first introduced more than 25 years ago.

Dutchess County’s housing market is “healthy,” according to Emily Craig, broker for Prudential Serls Prime Properties in Fishkill. Despite the nature of the current market, “the sales time has been prolonged for the residences that have not taken modest price reductions,” said Craig. “Therefore, compared to last year at this time, properties for sale take longer to close.”
