Kingston’s waterfront boasts two museums, several galleries and an arts center, specialty shops, restaurants and cafes, and docks that are lined with pleasure boats in the warm weather. Despite these attractions, the Rondout, as the area is called, which fronts the Rondout Creek and is unique among Hudson River sites in offering a sheltered port, has struggled to achieve the critical mass that would transform it into a flourishing tourism center.

Farmers in Orange County’s black dirt region are lauding a recent decision by the U. S. Department of Agriculture declaring the region a primary natural disaster area after the devastating mid-April flood.

 

 

 

Woodland Pond, a continuing-care retirement community planned for New Paltz that would enable almost 300 seniors living independently to receive assisted living and nursing care when they need it without having to leave the facility, has been in the planning stages for six years and is scheduled to break ground soon. But now the project is in jeopardy, due to the suspension of the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency’s authority to issue low-cost loans to nonprofits and the risk that reinstating that authority will be seriously delayed.

 

 

 

Jobs. Housing. Development. County payrolls. All important and all on the political docket, if not exactly the stuff of the silver screen. But Ulster County is covering that angle, too, with talk of turning the old county lockup into a movie set.

 

 

 

Finding the right type of financing, or finding any financing for that matter, is often one of the most difficult parts of starting and building a solid small business. You may have a terrific plan and be a talented workaholic, but finding funding is another issue. Most business failures are a result of inadequate funding from day one.
