“Last year, Americans gave $295 billion to charity,” said Glenn Clarke. “All we need is $295,000.”

Clarke, whose family has been in Marlboro since the 1700s, hopes contributors will rally to the renovation of the town’s 19th-century train depot.

Built by the New York West Shore and Buffalo Railway in 1883, Clarke says it is the last public train station from New York to Albany on the west shore of the Hudson River.

Canopy Development, a developer of luxury “green” resorts based in Northhampton, Mass., is in negotiations to buy the Williams Lake Hotel, a 737-acre property in Rosendale.

 

 

 

A few years ago, the New York state Legislature passed a law that streamlined the environmental review process for industrial development sites. The idea behind the “shovel ready” program was to make the state more competitive and friendly to business by having municipalities do a preliminary environmental review so a company coming in wouldn’t have to start the State Environmental Quality Review Assessment, or SEQRA, from scratch and get bogged down in expensive delays, which might result in a project not getting built at all.

 

 

 

While many of the hotels in Ulster and Sullivan counties have faded away, Pinegrove Ranch & Family Resort, a 126-room, all-inclusive Western-style resort located in Kerhonksen, is an exception.

The weekday commuter ferry between Newburgh and Beacon has been such a success that both cities have been working to launch ferry service on the weekends. Those efforts have finally met with success: a new water taxi inaugurated service on the weekend of June 23-24. The service, which is being operated by Hudson Cruises, will operate on weekends and holidays through Oct. 14.

 

 

 

The New York State Common Retirement Fund (CRF), the nation’s third-largest public pension plan, will likely reap a 500 percent return on its investment in Pump Audio Inc. ­ a Tivoli-based music licensing company that was acquired by Getty Images Inc., for $42 million, according to New York state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
