1. Puja J. Thomson of Dutchess County, author of “After Shock, from Cancer Diagnosis to Healing,” is pictured at a Barnes and Noble book-signing event in Poughkeepsie May 26. Thomson’s book helps people with cancer deal with the complexities of the disease.

2. To celebrate its newly purchased pavilion space on the Hudson in Poughkeepsie and its 5th anniversary, the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum had a party June 3. Pictured (from left) are capital campaign co-chairs and honorees: Fritsy Goodman and Sally Mazarella, who helped with the change and growth of the museum. From left (2a) are: New York state Sen. Steven Saland, Rob Dyson and Neville Smythe. The Dyson Foundation was lauded for its help in the museum’s growth. 3. Diagnosed with leukemia during the time of the 9/11 attacks, 10-year-old Daniel Mulvey, pictured with his dad Dan Mulvey, of the New York City Police Department, received a warm welcome and invitation on to the field at the U.S. Army at West Point 2007 graduation. He’s wearing an Operation Iraqi Freedom cover, courtesy of the military personnel.

4. The Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce and the Community Foundation of Dutchess held a special event at Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls May 31 where four college-bound Duchess County students received the Norman and Rita Nussbickel Scholarship Awards, worth $2,000 each.
