SCORE’s mission statement states: “SCORE provides professional guidance and information, accessible to all, to maximize the success of America’s existing and emerging small businesses.”

This statement reflects support for the thousands of volunteers across this country that support the growing needs and pains of many thousands-more small-business owners with their own opportunities to grow and expand or, to start a brand new business.

SCORE operates successfully in all seven counties in the Hudson Valley, with countless volunteers who are well schooled and trained to offer free knowledge to any small-business person looking for sound, professional business advice.

This column will allow me to share with the readers of Hudson Valley Business the leadership structure in each of the seven SCORE chapters, appropriate phone numbers, addresses and URL addresses. Information, including the time and location of future workshops and other SCORE-sponsored events, will be posted in this column.

I will also relate the many success stories of businesses in the valley that have been counseled by SCORE volunteers.

The column will also focus on the issues currently facing many, if not all, small businesses striving to grow and expand in a very competitive environment. I will focus on SCORE chapter news, recruiting issues in each of the SCORE units and provide exposure to one of the greatest resources in this country for the small-business person. Future articles will feature timely topics, such as how to improve your collection techniques, make your business more green and improve cash flow with these simple steps.
