Hearts of glass
Brother, sister keep tradition glowing

In a corner of Orange County where the Neversink and Delaware rivers merge, there over by the railroad tracks on Erie Street is Gillinder Glass, a sprawling, brick edifice that has been manufacturing glass items in Port Jervis since 1913.

Today, Charles and Susan are the sixth generation of Gillinders running the company that was founded by England native William T. Gillinder in 1861 in Philadelphia.

Ladies Who Launch support the female entrepreneurial spirit

Ladies Who Launch (www.ladieswholaunch.com) was started by two like-minded women who met on the Internet. Both had formed groups that provided support to women who were either thinking of starting up a business or already had one established. The likelihood of these two women -- one in New York and one in Ohio -- meeting and forming an alliance would be highly unlikely if not for the World Wide Web.

 

 

 

About four years ago Walter Little was asked by a friend to install a kit on his diesel-engine truck so that it could run on vegetable oil. After the conversion, Little -- an auto mechanic for close to 30 years -- became an installer for the company that sold the kit, converting “close to 300 vehicles” before he dreamed up his own conversion kit.
